VantagePoint Impressions
Conclusions
Overall, I think VantagePoint is a step in the right direction. While the software redraws maps very quickly, I wish Magellan included a better basemap. As far as ease of use, there is a learning curve with VantagePoint. I think with a few improvements, this could be a winner. The jury is out on how this software works with the Triton. As of this writing, I'm still waiting for a 2000. I'll report how well the software interfaces when I post the Triton review.
Here's the breakdown
Pros
Fast map redraw
Ability to import and view 3rd party maps
Integrated with Geocaching.com (finally)
Cons
Steep learning curve
Software slow to load
Old Meridian Lake maps not compatible ($$)
Cache names don't show up on map (bummer)
Reviewer edit: 12/23/07 VantagePoint 1.21 has been released. The about screen mentioned GPSBabel, so GSAK compatibility with the Triton in possible.
