@Sockeye

unfortunately I won't be at the Outdoor Show this year :(
But you can see our new topo2010EE on new EX there, just ask at the Magellan booth to show you ( it's still Beta, but most things works already )

... but if the trip guide you to or near the Zagreb,Croatia ... send me an email and I will be more then happy to meet you in person.

I'm back from the OutDoor in Friedrichshafen and met many very interesting people...

And I got my hands on the new eXplorists 510-710. The people on the Magellan booth where very friendly and helpful. I even got the chance to insert my micro SD card with my license free maps, and the vector maps worked perfectly.

Maps from Maps4me will work on the new seies... :-D

I also tried a raster map, created by MOBAC, but this failed to load. This is asumably caused by the beta version of the software runing on the demo units.

This are great news. I hope, they will continue the rmp maps. Both together (in the right order) would be great.

They said the new models will be downward compatible of *.imi and *.rmp. And they still have some time for the software... they expect the eXplorists to be available in October for Europe.

Hey Sockeye,

do you have some photos from Outdoor Show where we can see the Magellan booth and new eXplorists ?

Can you post them if you have it --- just for us who can't be there :)

Sorry, I did not make any pictures. The ones in the web suit them quite well.

Here is example of new POI feature which we will introduce in new maps for new eXplorists, first in topo2010EE - adding picture to POI .

This feature is available for some time, but we decided it to add it now in topo maps for new gps units.

Until now,
all POI's has standard data like: Name, Address, Phone, Working hours, and one special feature like direct link to the POI web sites ( from VP )..., but now they will have also pictures of themselves, so you could see how POI actually look like :)
Of course, map makers must include picture data during map creation...

Here are few examples of how that will look like:
- POI with included picture - in VantagePoint
-- POI name is blue underlined which means if you click on it, web site with more POI info will be opened in your internet browser
- two POI's with pictures in eXplorist

Can the 510 connect to an external antenna? And which size, like the Meridian or Triton?
