GPS: Triton 400
Greetings everyone.
First off I want to say that this forum is a great reference for Triton owners. I have been reading it daily in anticipation of my Triton 400's arrival.
It came today.
I upgraded the firmware, and am running the latest versions of both VantagePoint and Topo!. I can connect just fine in VP, but when I try to connect in Topo! the Triton's screen always says waiting to connect. If I try to export a map in Topo! using the Export Wizard, there is a place where you can test connection. When I test it, it says "No response. Check connection or restart GPS.
I am running the latest updated version of Windows XP Professional.
I have tried everything that I have seen on this forum and am wondering what I am missing. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
V

It's normal for the unit to say waiting for connection. I believe when you start to export a map, it will change to "connected to VantagePoint". Don't worry about the test connection feature. You should download and install this update as well :
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=698 This will fix the referencing error. Keep in mind that this is not an official release, so you will have to reload your maps after they finally come out with the official one.

Unfortunately it never starts to export. The status bar says requesting Magellan ID and it nothing happens. It just brings you back to travel mode on the map. VP does not launch. I made sure that only Topo! was running as it says on NatGeos website.
Other than the not being able to transfer the maps, the thing is running great, but is not going to be much use for me until I can get those topos running.

I would probably try to uninstall TOPO!, then reinstall. I haven't seen this issue yet, so hopefully someone on here has, and can point you in the right direction.

Be sure to close VantagePoint when you are trying to connect the Triton to NG Topo. The Triton prefers to connect with VantagePoint if both programs are open.

Well, so far none of this has helped. Let's look at the GPS settings in TOPO!. Maybe the answer is there. I notice that the Receiver Type catagory lets me put in Magellan for Make, but there are no Tritons listed in the model field, so i used (none of the above).
Then, my Connection Settings are Serial Port and COM Port 4/4800 baud rate. I thought that was weird since it connects to the USB port, but it does not recognize it that way either when I do a test connection.

I don't have any other helpful advice other than to confirm that you're onto a hot lead, there! My NG Topo version 4.4.2 does show choices for GPS receiver type Make: Magellan, Model: Triton, and connecting setting: USB

OK when I go to natgeomaps.com and look for the update to topo it shows the latest version for windows being 4.2.8. Where do you get 4.4.2?

Oops never mind I found it on the Triton support page. I was looking at their downloads page.
It now works! Thanks for everyone's help.

Are you using the topo pulldown that says "magellan triton import export" - if not that may be your problem.. I tried to connect to my 1500 (the old way) through import gps wizard and had zero luck!!

Go to:
http://www.tritonforum.com/forum/viewto ... f=13&t=698
and get version 4.4.2.1

It fixes the large maps being off problem.

Its a interim fix until 4.4.3 comes out
