GPS: Triton 400
Hello all and it's nice to find people who know all there is to know about using a gps =D>
I just got a T400 and haven't been out trying it out yet except for walking around in the yard, but am going to take it out starting tomarrow deer hunting in Clark National Forest here in Missouri. It is part of the Mark Twain National forest with lots of trails for hiking or 4 wheeling.
I haven't ever gotten lost in my adventures and never carried a compass but thought that having a GPS with maps would help me to pinpoint areas that other hunters might have overlooked hence deer that have not been spooked. Wish me luck. [-o<
I did join the maps4you site and DL'd the missouri map, but was a little let down that it did not have 3D contour. Does the activtrack maps have this feature? ( or what ever they're called)
Also, the Missouri Department of Conservation has come out with GEOPDF maps for most or all of their conservation areas. Is there a way to import them to the T400? And what about google maps? I like there 3D topo maps. I read something about using one program to change .jpg photos into files that can be used by the GPS but, is there an easier way?
WOW so many questions, I think I'm getting a headach. #-o
Well, thanks for a great forum and again hello everyone.

If you go to:
http://freegeographytools.com/2009/08
you can learn about loading free OSM maps to your TRITON. If you select cycle maps you will get contours on the map.

You can load Google (street, satellite, terrain) maps to your Triton. you can also load Microsoft VE and Yahoo satellite and road maps. I believe there is some documentation on how to do that on this web site.

USGS Topos can also be loaded. I believe that is described on the freegeographytools site.

Don't get discouraged. There is a lot to learn but lots of fun involved.
